Our clients in the West University area decided the time had come to update their three-story town-home. In particular, the kitchen required a new look and improved functionality. They knew they wanted an open kitchen plan. So, they called TriFection after hearing Tom Tynan brag about his own kitchen and bathroom remodeling experience with our company on HomeShow Radio.
These folks desired a more open concept for the kitchen. A wall separated the kitchen from the adjacent dining room, so the spaces often felt cramped when they entertained. Guests had to walk back and forth through French doors and stand in the same room to interact. Within the kitchen, a peninsula partitioned off the breakfast area, which further confined maneuverability. Our clients knew they’d like the wall gone, but they needed some expert advice on whether such a major change would be feasible. Then, what should they do with the new wide open space? The design team at TriFection loves this type of challenge!
An Engineered Solution
The removal of one or multiple walls is part of every day life at TriFection. We employ highly experienced remodeling professionals, including project managers and master frame carpenters. They’ve seen nearly every type of project imaginable over the past 30+ years and know how to assess structural integrity properly. Despite that knowledge, we never take such an assignment lightly or make risky assumptions when determining the solution. The cost of a mistake could result in huge financial damage or much worse – severe injury or the loss of human life…So, we partner with licensed engineers who certify our framing and foundation plans.
Many remodeling companies shy away from heavy structural projects because they don’t possess the necessary expertise. They’ll try to steer the homeowner into an alternative remodeling idea they can execute, regardless of whether that idea actually meets the homeowner’s objectives.

Once we showed these clients our new kitchen designs and informed them the wall removal was not cost-prohibitive, they got very excited. However, to make the design work, we also had to relocate a nearby powder bath. Again, not a problem for the TriFection experts.
Kitchen Design with Beauty and Functionality
Beyond the new open concept, our kitchen design featured a large island and multiple work stations. The island also offered room to seat up to four guests comfortably. As with many TriFection custom kitchens, we eliminated the old pantry closet in favor of a pantry cabinet with pullout drawers. We included many new drawers throughout the kitchen to maximize storage capacity and improve accessibility. Our clients had plenty of space for a long dinner table between the opened kitchen and the fireplace that separated the living room. Future holidays and parties will be more enjoyable in this entertainment-friendly venue.
Our clients chose a very attractive package of material selections. We designed and built solid oak custom cabinets with a Wheat color stain. Custom-fabricated White Spring granite served as the countertop choice. TriFection tile setters installed Concerto Sand Glossy tile in a herringbone pattern. 
We replaced the entire downstairs flooring with Aequa Tur 8×32 wood-look porcelain tile, which looks amazingly natural and will prove very durable. Sherwin Williams Passive color on the walls provided the perfect complement to brighten and modernize the home.
Once these nice folks began to see the pending transformation, they decided the staircase should be updated at the same time. Otherwise, it would stick out as “so 20th century” in a completely renovated home. So, TriFection built a new custom staircase, complete with solid wood stained treads & handrail and iron spindles. These new stairs really pop when you walk in the front door!
But Wait! There’s More…
TriFection also completely remodeled their upstairs master bath and a guest bath. However, those are stories for another day. 
Needless to say, our brand can be found all over this house. For all practical purposes, this is now a TriFection custom home.
