The most difficult step in remodeling is often the first one – finding a contractor you can trust. Many folks are scared to start a project because of the “horror stories” they’ve heard from friends, neighbors or family members about sloppy workmanship, lack of transparency or delayed completion. Our clients in Humble relied heavily not only on Tom Tynan’s strong endorsement but also the shared Aggie backgrounds in choosing TriFection. They could tell from our first meeting that TriFection was a company built on the Aggie values of excellence and integrity. We’re glad they chose TriFection for their Humble Texas bathroom remodel.
These clients recently purchased their home and wanted to customize it for their own desired style and functional needs. When we met, they had already begun the process of installing a new swimming pool and outdoor kitchen. Now, they wanted to upgrade the master bathroom and guest bathroom used by their two young boys. They also asked us to evaluate an attic conversion project. Given the magnitude of the various proposed changes, we had to be mindful of a comfortable budget when shaping our recommendations. We ultimately concluded the attic conversion was not practical based on several structural considerations. Our clients greatly appreciated the honest feedback. As far as the bathrooms, however, a larger, more luxurious shower in the master bathroom was at the top of the priority list.
Custom Built Shower
The existing shower was the builder-grade variety, with framed glass and a cumbersome cultured marble bench seat that wasted valuable floor space. The husband is a good-sized, athletic fellow, and he felt cramped in this phone booth-like shower. So, we began by designing a new walk-in shower and adjacent tub deck that would feel so much roomier. The new shower would feature modern frameless glass, a corner bench seat, a handheld showering unit and two recessed soap niches.
Our master tilers installed 12×24 Concrete Beige field tile from Interceramic in an offset pattern on the shower walls and continued the tile work around to the tub splash, deck and skirt. We tiled two decorative liners of Lucente Lido Linear glass and stone tile from Emser, with the lower liner wrapping around the length of the wall to decorate the adjacent tub backsplash. We placed 2×2 Seagrass natural stone tile from Crossville Tile & Stone on the shower floor. Like many clients, these folks fell in love with their tile choice during the selections process. They listened to our advice and later decided to replace the existing tile on the bathroom floor as well because the transitions involved in a new shower footprint would look better and it was the right thing to do. So, we installed 6×24 Woodwork Eugene field tile planks from Emser to mimic wooden floors in the bathroom.
Based on budget considerations, our clients chose to keep the existing vanity cabinets. We added a custom headknocker cabinet to provide more storage for bathroom items. We dressed up the vanity with Bianco Romano granite from Midwest and Kohler undermount sinks. The contrast to the old plain white cultured marble countertops was stunning. The countertop upgrade alone transformed the bathroom with a look of elegance and character.
Final master bath and guest bath touches
To complete the master bath remodeling effort, we installed a new Mirabelle Galatia 60×42 soaking tub and oil rubbed bronze fixtures as well as new LED lighting and more powerful, yet quieter vent fans. A fresh coat of Sherwin Williams paint enlivened the master bathroom.
In the boys’ bathroom, our clients requested updates to the vanity space and flooring that matched the master bathroom, including new Bianco Romano granite counters, a Kohler undermount sink, Woodwork Eugene tile floors and new paint.
