Not all of our clients are young up-starts seeking to freshen their new homes with the latest trends. Many long-time homeowners renovate primarily to feel more comfortable and safe in their own home during the golden years. This client wanted a bathroom spa, but one with a focus on accessibility, including installing a walk-in tub.
Replacing Jacuzzi with a Walk-In Tub
As with our Sugar Land client, we focused our spa efforts around water. We then adapted our approach to our client’s age and needs. This client wanted a more rejuvenating spa experience, but one that was easy to enjoy and affordable. Based on these needs, one fixture immediately stood out as a problem: the client’s existing Jacuzzi tub.
These types of tubs are often deep and dangerous to enter or exit. Our first step was to remove this outdated and user-unfriendly fixture. In its place, we inserted a walk-in tub made by MediTub. The swinging door and slip-resistant tub floor made for easy access. The contoured ADA-compliant chair, whirlpool system, air massage therapy, and precise temperature control provided every feature of a professional bath. To add a spa atmosphere, we lay travertine tile as a tub splash. This tile wrapped around the back of the tub and into the shower area.
Shower Redesign
We continued our remodeling by re-designing the shower. We started our work by ensuring that the shower accommodated our client’s functional needs. The first step was to make the whole shower bigger. The old Jacuzzi had taken up most of the wall. Selecting a smaller tub allowed us to extend the new shower. Our second step was to lower the shower curb and add a grab-bar. We also added a bench seat and handheld unit for a more relaxing bathing experience.
With upgraded functionality, the shower now felt as if it belonged in a spa. To enhance the style, we complemented the new frameless glass with a beautiful travertine tile. We accented the darker tile with White River Pebble on the wall and floor. While the pebbles decorate the wall, they also serve as a relaxing foot massage on the floor. We completed the shower with a recessed shampoo niche. All shower fixtures, including the diverter for the handheld unit, were from Delta’s Dryden line.
Custom Vanity Installation
For the vanity area, our client was seeking unique elegance. Beginning with the countertop, we removed the worn cultured marble and installed beautiful Botticino Classico marble. We used this marble for both the counter and the backsplash. Instead of attaching traditional undermount porcelain sinks, we selected Whittington oval glass vessel sinks, which rest directly on the marble. But the clincher was the choice of Kraus single lever glass waterfall faucets. The Kraus nozzle fans water over a tilted glass plate, and the water then flows into the oval glass sinks.
Safe Spa Experience
The bathroom had everything the client needed. We achieved both the relaxing spa feeling and the increased accessibility by adapting our focus for each item. When function mattered, we gave it priority. For more pictures of this TriFection bathroom and others like it, click here.
