Who wouldn’t rather have a day spa instead of an ordinary bathroom? She asked for clean lines with warm blue, brown, gray and cream tones–while remaining budget-conscious, of course. We provided all her requests and more with this glas tile bathroom remodel in Houston, TX.
Replace Existing Tile with Glass Tile
Water is at the heart of any day-spa experience. So, we concentrated on the shower and vanity. Work began by opening up the space with a frameless glass shower, replacing the existing tile on the shower’s two walls with Avilo Blanco Field Tile in a broken joint pattern. We also used this tile for the pony wall that separates the shower from the tub, creating a nice rhythm.
This newly opened space allowed us to create a focal wall within the shower. To do this, we installed a large panel of Tozen glass tiles. Each Tozen glass tile features complementary colors shot through with transparent layers of contrasting colors. The tiles are then stacked into a singular, repeating mosaic. Tozen’s Japonaise pattern and nickel color perfectly contrasted against the bathroom’s warm blue walls.
Bordering it with pewter-colored pencil liner was the perfect finishing touch. But, we weren’t finished: we then used this liner to trim the new bench seat and the custom-made soap niche on the opposite wall. This soap niche accommodates two granite shelves and is backed with Tozen glass tile. We completed the shower by laying green 1×1 quartzite for its floor.
Our next major project: the vanity. Keeping our client’s budget in mind, we re-used the existing cabinets and fixtures, focusing instead on the counters and backsplash. The glass tile backsplash’s sophisticated character accents the focal wall in the shower. Working off the color and pattern of the shower’s nickel and quartzite tiles, we installed Sage Brush granite counters with a glass tile backsplash. The granite’s distinctive pattern nicely contrasts the many tiles.
