When a couple with contemporary tastes looks about a traditional home, it may seem that every room begs for a remodel. Our clients knew they wanted a clean, modern makeover for their home, but they struggled to pick a starting point. They had discussed multiple changes and were unsure of what to do. Crisp lines and modern hardware
After in-depth discussions with our consultant, it became clear to our clients that while they would like to change many things in their home, the kitchen represented the best initial investment. Since the home has an open floor plan, a new contemporary look in 
this central, frequently used area would be highly visible and establish a theme for the rest of the house. By refacing the current cabinetry, instead of rebuilding all new custom cabinets, they would save money that could be redirected to the new double ovens they wanted as well as other decor purchases.
TriFection removed the old stained cabinet doors in the kitchen and installed custom Shaker-style cabinets fronts made of beech wood. We also modified a cabinet to allow for installation of the clients’ new double oven and microwave. All of the cabinetry was painted with Sherman Williams Pure White.
Shaker-style crown moulding was put in to match the cabinetry. Brushed nickel Swagger drawer pulls from Berenson Hardware, along with new Delta fixtures from Ferguson, added to the contemporary feel.
Cool tones, slick surfaces
New countertops, in Super White dolomite from Omni Surfaces, were fabricated with a 1 ½” straight polish edge to complement the straight lines in the cabinetry and crown molding. An undermount sink was installed to leave the counter surface clean and unbroken.
TriFection removed the dated ceramic tile backsplash and replaced it with a contemporary, glossy glass backsplash. With a cool grey color, 4”x12” Islandia Hawaii glass tiles from Arizona Tiles were installed in a broken joint pattern, trimmed out with matching Islandia Hawaii glossy pencil tile.
To complete the look, outdated white appliances were replaced with new stainless steel ones from Nor-West, including the cooktop, double oven, microwave, vent hood, dishwasher, and refrigerator.
