Our clients in west Houston have lived all over the globe. When a job transfer returned them to Houston, they decided to move into an upscale rental property they owned. However, the house in the Kelliwood Nottingham Country subdivision needed quality remodeling work to satisfy their desired style and functional needs. Most of the finishes dated back to the original construction in the late 1980s. They called TriFection to help them settle the battle of love it or list it.
They wisely recognized that updating the kitchen and master bath should be the first priority. Following a few meetings, they quickly gained confidence in our excellent craftsmanship, client service, and personality fit.
Two-Stage Remodeling Project
Based on the extent of the remodeling, which also included new tile flooring in multiple rooms and a powder bath, we agreed to split the project into two phases. This approach would allow our clients to live in the house with the least inconvenience possible during the construction phase. So, we began in the kitchen and powder bath while also installing new flooring in the living areas. The first phase of this love it or list it renovation.
Our clients generally liked the layout of their kitchen cabinets. They also liked their existing granite countertops. However, a more modern, brighter style was required. Cabinet refacing made perfect sense for their objectives. Our highly skilled carpenters completely transformed the appearance of the cabinets with new solid Beech wood doors and drawer fronts. We equipped the cabinets with upgraded hidden hinges and soft-close drawer guides. And, we modified a few areas, including the installation of a new wine rack. New appliances and LED recessed can lights completed the impressive kitchen renovation.
These clients made a terrific flooring selection, replacing the old carpet with 18″ x 18″ Travertine Silver Matte tile. It flows continuously throughout the majority of the downstairs. This unique tile provides character to every room. We even used it to dress up the fireplace facade.
Finally, our painters wrapped up Phase One with Toque White from Sherwin Williams on the walls and Alabaster on the built-in entertainment cabinets in the adjacent living room.
Next Up – The Master Bath and Closets
Like the kitchen, the master bath did not require a major layout change, just a refreshed look with new tile, fixtures, and paint. The original tile installation throughout the bathroom was not good, and the old builder-grade shower was definitely showing its age. Our clients chose Themar Venato Gold tile for the new shower and tub surround, including Blue Pearl accents, as well as the bathroom floor. These selections complemented their existing granite countertops really well. We also installed a new package of Kohler plumbing fixtures, including a very useful handheld device in the shower and a new air tub. New LED lighting, a new custom mirror, and Toque White Sherwin Williams paint on the walls provided the final touches to enliven the bathroom.
Once we were working on site, our clients requested that our demo crew remove the bulky shelving system in their master closets, which they realized no longer served their needs. Our expert drywallers then patched and textured the affected areas before the painters provided fresh coats and made the closets appear brand new.
