Prior to discovering TriFection, our client in the Clear Lake area worked with another contractor to remodel her guest bathroom. It was not a good experience, and she did not want to repeat it when remodeling her master bathroom. This time she listened to Tom Tynan’s advice and called TriFection. She came very prepared to our initial consultation with a long list of good questions and execution requests. During that meeting, TriFection co-owner Jeff Reina effectively answered her questions and addressed her possible concerns. He also provided her with some creative ideas that would enhance her original plans for the bathroom. Once she learned of their shared Aggie heritage, she knew she had found her Clear Lake contractor.
Custom Cabinets Over MDF
The layout of the master bathroom functioned well, but the space needed a modernized look with upgraded materials. The outdated wallpaper, tile, cultured marble countertops and gold-framed shower glass had to go. Our client originally planned to paint her existing vanity cabinets, but Jeff convinced her that was not a smart choice. The cabinets fronts were made of MDF, a relatively porous, low-grade wood substitute that deteriorates over time when exposed to moisture in a bathroom. Jeff explained that painting those cabinets would represent a waste of money and could easily compromise her new granite counters in the future. Our client saw the evidence supporting Jeff’s advice and she understood the rationale, so she expanded her budget to include the cost of custom wood vanity cabinets.
TriFection designed, built and finished new Shaker-style oak cabinets with a dark finish, along with two matching medicine cabinets. Our client selected striking White Galaxy granite countertops, which she complemented with Kohler undermount sinks and Delta Dryden faucets in a polished nickel finish. The installation of Berenson hardware completed the vanities.
Professional Tile Installation
An improved custom shower ranked at the top of our client’s priority list. For tile, she chose 13×13″ Montreaux Gris for the shower walls, accented with Montreaux Gris, Blanc and Burn. The shower floor featured 2×2″ Desert Travonya Turkish Travertine. We framed a new shower bench and recessed soap niches with granite shelves. The shower also included a Delta handheld unit on a slide bar and frameless glass.
We kept the existing bathtub, but dressed it up with new polished nickel fixtures to match the shower and vanities as well as a White Galaxy granite tub splash in place of the old non-descript tile. The old tub now had new life and did not look out of place in a completely remodeled environment.
We laid 20×20″ Montreaux Gris tile on the bathroom floor and Mainsail Croissant carpet in the master closet. We also installed a new mirrored slider on the front of the closet, Feiss Maddison vanity lights and Minka Daventry light fixture in the water closet. The new paint selections included Pacer White for the walls, Pure White for the wood trim and Bright White for the ceiling.
