This big island in a Katy kitchen is no longer just a fantasy

Katy kitchen remodel

Some of our clients’ family and friends couldn’t understand why they wanted to remodel their kitchen in the first place.  They had recently moved in to a nice and relatively newer house in the Grand Lakes neighborhood of Katy.  The answer was simple – this house wasn’t “home” yet.  The builder-grade finishes did not reflect their personal tastes and the layout did not meet all of their family’s functional needs.  Instead of settling for something less than perfection, they called TriFection after seeing our ad in a local magazine.

We learned two key things during the initial consultation at their house. 1) These folks would be great working partners because they were very pleasant and open-minded to our ideas. And 2). When it came to a new island in the kitchen, we should think BIG!  Our clients also learned two things when they visited our custom cabinetry shop as part of their follow-up. 1) They wanted their new cabinets built from cherry wood after seeing a beautiful finished set ready for install. And 2). TriFection’s custom craftsmanship is truly impeccable.  Following that quick tour, they felt very comfortable in choosing us to serve as their contractor.

Our clients wanted an island big enough not only for a sink and food preparation area but also for family sitting during meals and guest entertainment.  Through much discussion and design work, we developed plans for a custom island properly dimensioned and positioned within the kitchen.  This cherry wood masterpiece would feature an extended countertop overhang for bar stool seating, decorative end panels as well as drawers and open shelving on the back side for storage.

On the outside wall of the kitchen, a tall oven cabinet and refrigerator cabinet placed on each end provided the desired look of symmetry.  We also replaced the existing cabinets in the adjacent butler’s pantry.  The cabinet fronts were cove raised panels, and our clients chose a Dark Oak stain finish.  For added effect, we installed clear glass fronts and LED lighting in the upper cabinets.  Brushed nickel door knobs and drawer pulls from Berenson’s Fluidic collection completed the cabinetry.

20160622_172244We topped the lower cabinets with contrasting Bianco Romano granite from Omni Surfaces, fabricated with a bullnosed edge.  The island alone required a full slab of granite.  The mainly white stone features grey, cream, and tan veining with burgundy flecks for an elegant touch to the kitchen. Our master tile setter installed 3”x6” Dolomite White tumbled stone tile in a broken joint design for the backsplash to complement a stone floor made of 8” Navona Standard tile. The new tile floor flowed throughout the kitchen, breakfast area, pantry, laundry room, and butler’s pantry.

Sleek, professional grade kitchen appliances and accent lighting

With a family of five, our clients cook often.  So, they wanted a high-end appliance package that could meet every need.  With help from the folks at Ferguson, they selected a stainless steel Thermador Pro Grand range and Professional Series Triple Oven (with microwave and warming drawer) along with a Designer Series wall-mounted vented hood.  We reinstalled the existing refrigerator and dishwasher.

20160622_172311To accent the recessed can lighting, we hung two new pendant fixtures and installed undercabinet lights, which showcase the beautiful granite and backsplash selections.  Once our clients witnessed the skill of our painters in the kitchen, where we applied Accessible Beige from Sherwin Williams on the walls, they requested we also paint the laundry room, living room, dining room, foyer, two staircases and two upstairs game rooms.

The house is now a home….almost!

Our clients love their newly remodeled kitchen, and they were extremely pleased with the quality of our process and lineup of tradespeople.  “You delivered everything you said you would, ” they told us upon completion.  Inspired by the outcome and having developed a great deal of trust in the TriFection team, they are already thinking about the next project(s) for us.  Stated options under consideration include new or refinished wood floors, master and powder bath renovation, built-in custom cabinets for a wine room, outdoor kitchen and energy-efficient windows.  We’ll be ready, willing and able to tackle any or all of those ideas when they are!
