A dog’s life leads to a custom kitchen makeover

dog lovers custom kitchen makeover

IMG_6483Dog lovers have specific needs when considering a kitchen makeover. These clients in the Oak Forest neighborhood not only love dogs, but breed them as well. A French country themed kitchen on TriFection’s website inspired them to call. But, their breeding business meant these clients had a particular concern: making sure their new kitchen floors would be dog-friendly and easy to maintain.

Happy wife, happy kitchen makeover

The wife knew exactly what she wanted in her kitchen, and the husband was determined to make sure that’s what she got. First on her list: more storage.

Our in-house custom cabinet team created one of TriFection’s signature pantry cabinets, featuring six pullout drawers. While each pantry cabinet we build is unique, they all share one thing in common: much greater storage capacity than the pantry closets they replace. Perfect for these clients.

Kitchen makeover custom cabinetry

Their pantry cabinet was just the beginning of this kitchen makeover. Our client’s cabinet wish list included a number of special touches pre-made cabinets could not provide: lighted upper cabinets to display collectibles, a pullout drawer under the sink, a pullout spice rack and a pullout trash can.

IMG_6480We also created a complementary cabinet for their new refrigerator with vertical shelving for storage of platters and trays. Dover White paint from Sherwin Williams and Verona Bronze cabinet hardware by Berenson Hardware provided added pop to all the cabinets as does the undercabinet lighting.

Granite and tile complete this kitchen makeover

Our clients chose to top their cabinets with Sienna Beige granite counters from Omni Surfaces along with a Kraus stainless steel undermount sink. The 4” x 4” quartzite backsplash in a grid pattern with Renaissance bronze 2” x 2” inserts combine to evoke the country theme that first attracted these clients to TriFection.

This new kitchen is a perfect setting for our clients’ new appliances from Nor-West Appliances— including a range, microwave and beverage cooler. We re-routed a gas line so the new slide-in range could be placed in the ideal location.

Custom carpentry beyond kitchen cabinets

Our clients decided to add a window seat for even more storage and a custom-designed desk cabinet in the breakfast area. Our team crafted them to complement the kitchen’s new cabinets. TriFection’s carpenters have a special ability to craft such pieces from photos, sketches or simply verbalized thoughts.

Flooring and finishing

With assistance from TriFection’s selections expert, our clients chose a dog-friendly Country York tile in a broken joint pattern from Emser for the kitchen, breakfast room, attached utility room and powder bathroom. This tile looks like hardwood flooring, but it’s porcelain tile far less susceptible to scratching.IMG_6473

Our clients were so taken with the tile that they asked us to carry this beautiful flooring throughout the den and entry way. We also framed new arched openings to the den for an improved look and flow.

Lastly, we installed LED recessed cans to brighten the home, and we painted walls, ceiling and trim throughout the kitchen and breakfast area as well as paneling in the den.

These breeders award our work best in show

Our clients were so pleased with their finished kitchen makeover—and more—that they’re already discussing a bathroom project. But, that will have to wait until the next litter of puppies moves out.
